What Cornwall Thinks about… Easter ‘25

Between 7th-11th April 2025, PFA Research asked members of the What Cornwall Thinks panel how they would be spending their Easter Bank Holiday 2025 weekend (18th-21st April).

Let’s take some time to relax and socialise this Easter…

A quarter hope to spend the long weekend prioritisation, perhaps walking the dogs or making time to read a favourite book.

  • Relaxing – 24%
  • Socialising with friends & family – 19%
  • Nothing in particular / same as any other weekend – 11%
  • Gardening – 9%
  • Exploring/hiking/trips to the beach – 8%
  • Going to church/attending religious service – 6%
  • Catching up on chores/DIY – 5%
  • Working – 5%
  • Easter egg hunt! – 5%

Most of us reckon we will be spending the weekend doing whatever it is that is most important to us personally for that weekend, apart from twice as many expect to be spending the weekend doing chores and DIY (10%) as see it as the thing they most want to be doing (5%).

…perhaps enjoying some roast lamb, hot cross buns and Easter eggs…

Whilst 42% are not looking forward to any specific Easter treats, for the rest it is a toss up between hot cross buns, roast lamb or Easter eggs/chocolate as the most anticipated indulgence, with one in six favouring each.

…but cash would be a welcome treat too!

In the UK, the average spend on Easter is projected to be about £37 each[1].  However, amongst our survey of Cornish residents, this figure was a lot lower – on average it was £21 each.  Times are tough – as shown by nearly one in three of us (29%) saying that, if the Easter Bunny could bring us any treat, ideally it would be cash.  For one in five (20%) the ideal Easter treat would be something sweet (for most this means chocolate and Easter eggs, but with several ‘shout outs’ for saffron cakes and buns).  One in eight (12%) would rather a savoury treat than a sweet one.  One in seven (14%) say they don’t want anything for Easter and one in ten (11%) haven’t decided yet.

Where is the best place in Cornwall to spend Easter?

This is a tricky question – for many there are, quite understandably, too many to list!  For those 74 respondents who tried, the most common answers were either “at home” or “on the beach”:

  • At home / in my garden – 34% of those answering
  • At the beach / on the coast / out on the water – 23%
  • Anywhere that is away from the crowds! – 5%
  • On the moors – 4%
  • Falmouth – 4%
  • Looe – 3%

Other specific recommendations include: the Botallack Coast, Bude, Cotehele, Fowey, Gorran Haven, Kynance Cove, Newquay, Polzeath, Port Issac, Sennen Cove, St. Agnes, St. Ives, St. Mawes’ art exhibition, the Tamar Valley, Trebah and West Penwith.  Or indeed any of the wonderful golf courses or open gardens in Cornwall!

Whatever you are doing this Easter, whether you are celebrating it or not, everyone at PFA Research hopes you have a lovely bank holiday weekend!
